Meet Alex- Internship 2017

Alex Vietor

Truman State University

Major: Anthropology

Minor: French

I can't wait to work, live, and immerse myself in a culture other than my own. I look forward to exploring, traveling, and meeting new people as well as developing professional skills that will benefit me throughout my life. PINC's internship program provides such a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience while abroad, and I'm excited to see where it leads! -Alex

Which groups/sorority/organization are you currently affiliated with?

I am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, and I currently serve as Gamma 1 Coordinator, an officer on our member development team. I am also the secretary for the Cultural and Societal Honors Society.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
I see myself continuing to make my goals and dreams a priority in my life and doing whatever I can to achieve them... once I figure out what those goals are! I have such a wide variety of interests that it's impossible for me to see what exactly I'll be doing in 10 years, but hopefully it will involve working in an environment where I am happy and helping others - with plenty of time to travel!

What are some of your bucket list items/places?

My bucket list includes things as relatively mundane as becoming a "regular" at a restaurant and as extreme as completing a long-term solo hike. Other items include writing a book, going skydiving, and tracing my family tree back as far as possible. When it comes to places I want to go, I'm tempted to say "everywhere," but since that's a bit of a cop out, I'll list just a few specific places: Machu Picchu, Venice, Prague, New Zealand.

What is one of your proudest accomplishments to date?

I am very proud of my organization for stepping up and creating teams for Truman's annual Up Til Dawn event (which benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital) and being top team fundraisers for the past two years. It is incredible to think that we've had an impact on the lives of the children at St. Jude as well as childhood cancer research efforts. Also, while not a specific accomplishment, I am proud of the fact that I have continued to push myself past my comfort zone and take on roles that I never would've thought possible, because doing so has profoundly shaped my life, my goals, and who I am as a person.

If you could sit and have coffee with one celebrity dead or alive who would it be?

I would definitely have coffee with Amelia Earhart (although it would probably be a chai latté, since I'm actually not a huge coffee fan!). She is the epitome of a woman who doesn't let others keep her down, and I would hope that some of her determined spirit would rub off on me after having a conversation with her.
